Entries will be accepted on Wednesday, Sept. 23, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Fresh cut flowers will be judged Wednesday evening, Sept. 23 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Judging will continue to other categories and will be completed, if necessary, Thursday, September 24, between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. All entries must be approved and accepted by the screening committee and/or the Chairperson. The Chairperson’s decision is final. One exhibitor’s admission pass will be given for each entry accepted. Due to limited exhibition space, exhibitors will be limited to FIVE entries per person present at time of entry. Only the Chairperson may make exceptions to this ‘number of entry’ rule. All entries must be picked up on Sunday, September 27, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. or Monday, September 28, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

DO NOT USE ‘PLANT SHINE’ OR ANY OTHER CHEMICAL CLEANER ON PLANTS. Use of chemicals will disqualify plants from entry. Plants may be cleaned with water only.

Plants will be judged according to quality, appearance, proportion to container and trueness to form. This is an amateur show only. An amateur is one who grows plants for pleasure only at home and not at a commercial place or for commercial intent. Plants must have been grown, by the exhibitor, for at least three months before the fair. All plants will be screened for insects and disease. All cut flowers must be in a sturdy disposable container, such as a soda or water bottle.

IT IS THE OWNER’S/EXHIBITOR’S RESPONSIBILITY TO WATER PLANTS THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE FAIR.

Trophies are donated by Comal Flower Shop on the Plaza, The Plant Haus, and Blumen Meisters Flowers for “Best of Category” awards. Tri-color ribbons, as well as blue, red and white ribbons will be awarded. A “Best of Show” trophy will be awarded to the overall Horticulture winner.

CLASSES:
1) Ferns, hanging or in pot – boston, maidenhair, staghorn, bird’s nest, rabbit’s foot, or table ferns
2) Cacti/Succulents, hanging or in a pot – agave, aloes, sanseveria, kalanchoe, pencil, donkey ear, red birds, etc.
3) Flowering Plants, hanging or in a pot – impatients, begonias, mums, Christmas peppers, geraniums, etc.
4) Indoor/Patio Foliage, hanging or in a pot – pothos, grape, arrowhead, wandering jew, scheffleras, palms, ficus, syngonium, pepperomia, marantha, aluminum plant, etc.
5) Dish Gardens and Terrariums, hanging or in a pot – usually distinctive, driftwood, etc. consisting of a group of 3 or more plants
6) Cut Flowers – Includes flowers in sturdy vases, seeds such as cotton and French mulberry, also plants grown in water
7) Unusual Plants, hanging or in pots, including Bonsai – Chairperson’s discretion
8) Orchids, hanging or in a pot
9) Junior Division – any plant grown by a child up to18 years of age (provided they are still enrolled in school)
