BABY BARNYARD

The Barnyard Committee will be available to give tours for local school classes on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009. The children and teachers will be able to pet the baby animals during the tours.  The baby barnyard will be open during various times throughout the fair.

2009 SHOE BOX FLOAT CONTEST

CO-CHAIRPERSONS:  Becky Voges and Ann Keeler

The contest is open to all private school, Comal ISD, and New Braunfels ISD kindergarten students. Entries should be made out of a shoe box with any theme, but make sure “116 Years” is somewhere on the float.

Awards:
There will be three winners – Most Beautiful, Most Creative Use of Materials, and Most Unique.
Each winner will receive a trophy and have their picture taken for the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung on Saturday, Sept. 26.

How to enter:

Just bring your child’s float to the Comal County Fairgrounds in the Main Exhibit Hall (where the quilts are displayed) on Wednesday, Sept. 23, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Put the name and phone number of the child on the bottom of the float so the winners can be notified.
Judging will be conducted Wednesday evening with winners announced on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Floats should be picked up Monday, Sept 28, between 9 a.m. and noon. We are not responsible for floats left after this time.

 

2009 BEST WESTERN DRESS CONTEST

The Best Western Dress Contest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9:30 a.m. in the Arts & Crafts Building. Entry forms may be picked up at the fair office or on web site. Entry forms must be returned to the fair office by Thursday, Sept. 17, 5:00 p.m. Check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. (All entrants not present at 9:30 a.m. will not be judged in the contest.)

Awards:
1) Ribbons will be awarded to each participant.
2) Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category and division.
3) Best Overall Boy and Girl will receive a tri-color ribbon

Rules:
1) All entrants must be dressed in Western attire. The Western attire worn by the contestant will be approved by the chairman and co-chairman. Ultimately, the chairpersons will decide whether or not the contestant’s attire is considered Western. (i.e.: no rodeo clown costumes, see: Kids Rodeo Clown Contest for more info.)
2) Entrants will be judged on attire and appearance only.
3) Age categories are as follows:
0-12 months
12-18 months
18-24 months
2-3 years
4-5 years
6-8 years
4) Each category will have a boys and girls division. In addition, one entry will be selected as Best Overall Boy and Girl.
5) NO LIVE ANIMALS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE CONTEST!!

Fair Week:
All winners will be announced again at Night in Old New Braunfels, Wednesday Sept. 23, during the week of the fair. All winners who want to be announced need to arrive at 6:00 p.m. in the CORRAL, dressed in their costumes, to meet with the Chairman and Co-Chairman.

2009 CHILDREN’S GAMES

CHAIRPERSON:  Cindy Casey

Children’s games will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. till noon, in the open area behind the Arts & Crafts Building.

A variety of games will be available for children ages 3 to 10 and everyone is a winner. There is no registration or additional cost – just come by and join in the fun!

2009 KIDDIE TRACTOR PULL

CHAIRMAN:  Barney Handrick                                        

The 12th Annual Kiddie Tractor Pull will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1:00 pm and Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1:00 p.m. (These times have changed since last year.) Children will be divided into the following five weight categories:

Class I            40 to 50 lbs.
Class II           51 to 60 lbs.
Class III          61 to 70 lbs.
Class IV         71 to 80 lbs.
Class V          81 to 90 lbs.

There is no entry fee and each contestant will receive a participation ribbon. Trophies are sponsored by Ewald Tractor Co. of Seguin and will be awarded for first and second place in each weight category.

Children may begin weighing in at 10 a.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday next to the Children’s Games area behind the Arts & Crafts Building.

2009 KIDS RODEO CLOWN CONTEST

CHAIRPERSON:  Donna Elder                                       
The contest will be held Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:15 p.m. in the rodeo arena. It is open to children 4 thru 12 years of age and there is no entry fee. Come dressed in a rodeo clown costume and make-up.

Check-in time is 6:45 to 7:10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at the SIDE GATE OF THE RODEO OFFICE. Parents MAY NOT accompany their children in the rodeo arena. The rodeo clowns will be the judges. Ribbons will be awarded to all participants.

Awards:
First Place – Trophy and $100 gift certificate

Second Place – Trophy and $50 gift certificate

PET PARADE

The annual pet parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25. Participants must be in the Handy Andy parking lot located on San Antonio Street by 8:30 a.m. for judging. No participants arriving after 8:30 a.m. will be judged; however, you and your pet still can participate in the parade even if not judged.

The Pet Parade Committee encourages all children to take part in the parade with a pet of their choice, as long as it cannot cause possible harm to the public. The final determination and decision as to whether or not the pet could be harmful will rest with the Pet Parade Chairperson.

First place trophies are given in the following categories:
1) Most unusual decorated pet and owner
2) Best decorated cat and owner
3) Best decorated dog and owner
4) Best decorated livestock and owner
5) Best decorated bicycle and owner
6) Best decorated bicycle group and owner

All contestants will receive participation ribbons.
