Anyone living in Comal County or any of the counties touching Comal County may enter this
contest.

Entries will be accepted on Wednesday, Sept. 27th, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Fresh cut flowers will be judged Wednesday evening, Sept. 27th beginning at 7:00 p.m. Judging will continue to other categories if time permits. If necessary, remaining entries will be judged on Thursday, September 28th, between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

All entries must be approved and accepted by the screening committee and/or the Chairperson. The Chairperson’s decision is final.

All entries must be picked up on Sunday, October 1st, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. OR Monday, October 2nd, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

Due to space and display limitations, all entries/ exhibits will be limited to a maximum of FOUR (4) entries per person present on Wednesday at time of entry. This limit means one entry per category and a total of FOUR (4) entries per person present. NO EXCEPTIONS Chairperson decision is final.

Do not use "Plant Shine" or any other chemical cleaner on plants.Use of chemicals will disqualify plants from entry. Plants may be cleaned with WATER ONLY.

All cut flowers must be in a sturdy non breakable DISPOSABLE CONTAINER, such as a soda or water bottle. No glass containers will be allowed.


Grouping of small items will be counted as a single entry. Per chairperson decision. They will not be separated and counted as multiple entries without prior approval of the screening committee or the chairperson. The chairperson's decision is final.

Plants will be judged according to quality, appearance, proportion to container and trueness to form.

This is an amateur show only. An amateur is one who grows plants for pleasure only at home and not at a commercial place or for commercial intent. Plants must have been grown by the exhibitor, for at least three (3) months before the fair. Exhibitor must have photo evidence of the plant growing in their home at least the past three months and must show the photo at the chairperson request.

All plants will be screened for insects and disease. If insects or disease are present, the plant will immediately be removed from the Fairgrounds by the owner.

IT IS THE OWNER’S/EXHIBITOR’S RESPONSIBILITY TO WATER PLANTS THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE FAIR.

Tri Color ribbons and trophies will be awarded along with blue, red and white ribbons.

A "Best of Show" trophy will be awarded for overall Horticulture winner.

CLASSES:
1) Ferns, hanging or in pot – boston, maidenhair, staghorn, bird’s nest, rabbit’s foot, or table ferns
2) Succulents, hanging or in a pot – agave, aloes, sanseveria, kalanchoe, donkey ear, red birds, etc.
3) Flowering Plants, hanging or in a pot – impatients, begonias, mums, Christmas peppers, geraniums, etc.
4) Indoor/ hanging or in a pot – pothos, wandering jew, scheffleras, palms, ficus, syngonium, pepperomia, marantha, aluminum plant, etc.
5) Dish Gardens and Terrariums, in a pot – usually distinctive, driftwood, etc. consisting of a group of 3 or more plants
6) Cut Flowers – Includes flowers in sturdy vases, seeds such as cotton and French mulberry, also plants grown in water
7) Unusual Plants, hanging or in pots, including Bonsai – Chairperson’s discretion
8) Orchids, hanging or in a pot
9) Junior Division – any plant grown by a child up to18 years of age (provided they are still enrolled in school)
10) Cacti, hanging or in a pot – pencil, hedgehog, candelabra, etc.
11) Patio/Outdoor, in a pot – palms, vines, grape, arrowhead, etc.
12) Hanging – Ivies, Airplane plants, creeping Charlie, Swedish ivy, etc.
13) Violet, hanging or in a pot
